Finland Stay Perfect With 4-1 Win Over Hungary
Finland made it two wins from two at the 2026 IIHF World Championship with a 4-1 victory over Hungary at Swiss Life Arena on Saturday. 9,069 fans saw Antti Pennanen's side blow the game open with three second-period goals before sealing it in the third.
How it unfolded
The opening period was a tight, scoreless affair. Hungary's Adam Vay kept things level despite Finland's heavy puck possession, with the Finns leading 8-5 in shots.
The second period broke the game open. Ville Heinola opened the scoring just 46 seconds in from Urho Vaakanainen and Jesse Puljujärvi. Puljujärvi added his first at 3:15 from Aleksander Barkov and Sakari Manninen. Hungary's Balazs Sebok answered at 7:01 from Bence Horvath and Istvan Terbocs to keep the deficit at two, but Janne Kuokkanen restored the three-goal cushion at 16:03 from Aatu Räty and Henri Jokiharju.
Puljujärvi sealed the win on the power play at 2:36 of the third period, taking feeds from Barkov and Heinola to finish off Vay. Finland outshot Hungary 6-0 in the final frame and held the visitors to just 10 shots overall.

Joonas Korpisalo earned the win with 9 saves on 10 shots. Vay took the loss with 28 saves on 32 attempts. Puljujärvi led all skaters with 2 goals and an assist for 3 points, with Barkov adding 2 assists.
