USA Cruise Past Great Britain 5-1 to Bounce Back

The United States bounced back from their opening loss with a 5-1 win over Great Britain at Swiss Life Arena on Sunday. 6,456 fans watched the Americans outshoot the Brits 40-20 and pull away with a three-goal third period.

How it unfolded

Paul Cotter put the United States on the board at 13:55 of the first period, finishing from Mathieu Olivier and Max Sasson. Great Britain answered on the power play in the second period: Nathanael Halbert tied it at 8:39 from Josh Waller and Brett Perlini. Isaac Howard restored the lead at 17:01 from open ice to send the United States into the second intermission up 2-1.

The third period was all USA. Olivier scored at 2:49 from Cotter and Declan Carlile, and Carlile struck just 15 seconds later (3:04) from Cotter and Olivier to make it 4-1. Howard sealed his second on the power play at 16:11 from Oliver Moore and Tommy Novak.

Goaltenders and shots

Devin Cooley earned the win for the United States with 19 saves on 20 shots. Ben Bowns took the loss for Great Britain with 35 saves on 40 shots, the heavier workload coming from a relentless American attack. Cotter and Olivier each finished with 1+2 lines, while Howard added 2+0.

The United States move to 3 points after two games. Great Britain drop to 0-2 with a plus-three goal differential against them. Both teams play Monday: the United States face Finland at Swiss Life Arena at 16:20 CET, while Great Britain wait until Tuesday to face Hungary.
